Gabriel's Inferno is a wonderfully written love story. At times I found myself crying for the angst ridden lovers and other time I found myself cheering them on in their battle to bring out the good in each other. I deducted 1 star as I was hoping for a bit more conflict once the lovers found each other. While they each had their own demons to exorcize, I wanted a bit more external conflict.
There are a great number of literary references in this book. They definitely fit with the characters as Gabriel is a literary professor and Julia is a literary grad student. There were only a couple of references I had to look up to understand, the rest were easily understood.
If someone is not familiar with the literary references made, it would make it difficult for them understand and appreciate the story.
