Club Mephisto (Club Mephisto #1) - Annabel Joseph This is a really hard review for me to write. I enjoyed the story and will definitely be reading the others. My problem? I'm not into pain and there was a LOT of pain involved in this one. My other problem? I almost felt like Molly's masters saw her as a thing and not a person. Yes, I know it's a master/slave relationship, but it just felt off. Maybe that's because I don't get the Master/slave relationship dynamic.

So, this is why I'm torn and the review is hard to write.

I'm also not going to rate this one with stars. I don't feel like I can adequately rate it it. Maybe I'll feel differently after I read the others.
Hidden Depths - Aubrianna Hunter This was a great story with a bit of role=reversal. In this one, she's the tattooed, pierced and different character. He's the straight-laced following all the rules and doing what's he's supposed to.

Their chemistry is off the charts and hotter than hell.

I really liked the way things played out between them. The role reversal was amazing!
Officer off Limits - Tessa Bailey image

Officer Off Limits is the story of Story and Daniel. Story has flown 3,000 miles to be with her father as he recovers from a heart attack. She’s recently broken up with her fiancé and she’s now met Daniel. Daniel is a hostage negotiator and Story’s dad’s co-worker. He’s definitely off-limits. He’s a playboy and player. Just what she needs.

The story starts off hot and the tension keeps building. Daniel is broken, or so he thinks, and oh so hot and loveable. Story is sweet and finding her own way. She’s learning how to stand on her own two feet again.

While I loved the story and enjoyed it, I had a bit of a hard time connecting with the characters. They were both loveable and I enjoyed them, the connection just wasn’t there for me.

I have not read the first two in this series yet. There was no need to have read them either. This story definitely stood on it’s own.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley.

Addicted (Club Destiny, #2.5)

Addicted (Club Destiny, #2.5) - Nicole Edwards This was a great novella that continues the story of Logan and Sam. They are such a great couple. They no longer have Luke to play with so they look for another third. Enter Tag.

Logan is so in tune with his wife and strives to give her what she needs and wants. They are a hot couple and this one just continues their amazing story!

Temptation (Club Destiny, #2)

Temptation (Club Destiny, #2) - Nicole Edwards We continue the saga of Club Desinty. Sierra has been set up on a date by her mother. Ha ha ha...glad I never had that happen. But in this case, it works out for Sierra. She meets hottie mchottie Luke and his friend Cold. They have a hot menage! Woo Hoo!

This was pretty good. I got a bit frustrated with Luke. I also got frustrated because I felt like Cole was always a fifth wheel. I felt like the entire relationship was all Luke and Sierra and Cole was just extra. It felt like that until the very end.

I thought Sierra was very forgiving. She forgave so much, but that's what you do when you're in love.
Caught by Menace (Grabbed, #2) - Lolita Lopez image

So, this is the second in the series. Once again, we start off with a bang and it just gets better!

Menace decides to enter the Grab. He spots Naya, which he’s run into before, and they recognize each other. Naya is the grab along with her friend Jennie. Naya bribed her way in so she could stay with Jennie. Instead Naya ends up being grabbed by Menace.

Naya is anything but sweet and docile. She can blister a hardened soldier’s ears all while plotting her escape. She fast, she’s smart, and she’s not giving up!

Menace is determined to make things work with Naya. He plots out a mission plan to win her over, and Menace never fails at a mission!

In the first book, we learned a little bit about the cultural difference between the Sky Warriors and the women they’ve grabbed. In this one, we get even more explanation of those differences and how it affects their relationships. We learn why the Sky Warriors are so into the BDSM scene. We learn why the women are more inhibited sexually. We learn why the Sky Warrior have such terrifying names. We learn so many wonderful things in this one, it actually enhances the first book as well. I happened to read these back to back so it impacted me more.

We also get into a sub-plot that seems like it may be an underlying plot through the series. At least I hope it does. It really added something to this story.

Both Naya and Hallie, from the first one, had things to hide. Things they thought their Sky Warriors wouldn’t understand. Things they thought the Warriors would shun them for. These were amazing men who took care of their women.

Now, while Menace is similar to Vicious in what he was expecting from his mate he grabbed, his story was not the same a Vicious. They were both kind, patient and understanding with their women. However, how they handled that and how they went about winning the trust of their women was a little different. Also, what Menace and Vicious expected in the bedroom was different. What Hallie and Naya wanted was different. This was great because we don’t end up with the same story being told slightly different.

We were introduced to some characters in these books. They are secondary in these books but I’m hoping they’ll be getting their own stories soon. There’s on in particular I can’t wait for. Who’s story you ask? Terror’s! Why you ask? Because he is one grade A asshole and I can’t wait to watch him fall! LOL! It will be sweet when he does! Especially after what he did to both Hallie and Naya. It’s a wonder that neither Vicious or Menace has killed him yet!

I received a copy of this book via NetGalley.
Grabbed by Vicious - Lolita Lopez image

From the very first sentence I was hooked on this book! Hallie has been selected by her town to be part of the Grab. This is an event where sky warriors chase women through the woods and if they Grab the woman before she makes it to the safe zone, he gets to keep her. If she makes it to the safe zone she gets to leave and go to the colonies. Really? Kind of barbaric! But it makes for a great story!

Hallie’s ancestors came from Earth a long time ago. They set up a treaty with the sky warriors. Part of the treaty is that they will provide women for the Grab, so the warriors can get a wife, in exchange for safety. However, we learn that Hallie’s town is a bit backwards in their thinking. They also raise their children to believe the sky warriors are the modern day boogie man. But remember, all is not as it seems.

Once Hallie is grabbed by vicious, they head off to the ship. Now, we should all understand at this point that the culture Vicious is from is very different from the one Hallie is from. There are some serious miscommunications and misunderstandings that lead to some serious problems between Hallie and Vicious.

Vicious is the kind of man many women want. He’s gruff on the outside and soft and squishy on the inside. He’s patient when it comes to Hallie and willing to do what he can to make her comfortable and win her over.

Hallie is a force to be reckoned with. She stands up to Vicious and takes her chances. She’s brave, kind, understanding, and oh so forgiving when it comes to Vicious.

I’m liking this new series and I’m looking forward to more!

Poughkeepsie - Debra Anastasia image

Not everything is as it seems.
Not everyone is as they seem.
Only by letting the sunshine in, do we see the true beauty in things that look broken.

Blake is a broken man. He’s homeless, he’s tortured, he nothing. At least until Livie sees him. Really sees him. Livia isn’t like the others. She doesn’t look past him. She smiles at him every day. He counts her smiles. He remembers every single one of them. This is what he lives for.

Livia has the seemingly perfect life. Then when she finally, really, truly looks at Blake and speaks with him, defends him, does she begin to realize her life isn’t so perfect. She sets out to change things, not only for herself, but for Blake.

Their romance and story is not conventional. It’s not easy. In fact, it gets downright hard and looks like it’s going to be impossible. It looks like everything will fall apart and Blake and Livia will be alone, never together.

This was a truly amazing story about learning to love people as they are, while helping them heal and become a better person. It was about not letting your preconceived notions get in the way of finding true love in the person, who others see as hopeless and lost.

This story brought such joy and warmth to me as I read it. I was unbelievably moved by the characters in this story. I felt everything they felt and wanted only the best for them, even though that are the fringes on of society. It wasn’t brought on by the need to feel compassion for those that are seen as different or not deserving by others, it was brought on by their actions and the motivations for their actions. It was beautiful.

There is another story coming out about Poughkeepsie. It tells another story. Another story about someone who, to others, wouldn’t deserve love or a second chance, but in my mind they do. Simply because of who they are and what they’ve sacrificed.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Innocence Defied (New York, #3) - Lainey Reese image

WOW! Just WOW! Lainey Reese can write one HAWT HAWT story. I was hooked from the very beginning and could not stop. Now, this is the third in the New York Series and I love all the characters! I’m really hoping we get more from this series.

I really enjoyed seeing the couples from the first two. I loved seeing how they’ve grown and changed. I’ve enjoyed seeing where they are now in their relationships.

The relationship between Oops and Gage is different from those in the other stories. Gage is looking for a Master/Slave relationship. He’s not just a Dom who wants control in the bedroom, he wants control in every aspect of their lives. Oops, or Zoe, is virgin. She’s saved herself for Gage and she’s determined to have him. How in the world is this bright eyed innocent girl, barely out of high school going to be able to handle a Master/Slave relationship. And how is her brother Brice going to handle her being with Gage?

I will be the first one to admit that I’ve never really understood the Master/Slave relationship. While I’ve read and enjoyed stories with these types of relationships, I never really understood them. After reading Gage and Oops’s story, I understood a little bit better. Not completely, but closer than I was before. Add into this that Gage is a hot Texas Cowboy with manners and control like you’ve never seen before and OMFG!

While Oops was a wide-eyed innocent, she did go into things willing to try to understand what was happening. When Gage explained his needs to her, she did research. She didn’t run away or get pissy, she just did research. I liked that she was wiling to research and listen. I also liked that she was open to new things without a lot of coaxing from Gage. Now, Gage did push her boundaries, but he watched and listened to her, so it was never too far.

The chemistry and connection between Gage and Oops made this a hot read. I love how he slowly immersed her into his world. He didn’t jump in with everything on the first day. He slowly brought her to new heights by introducing new things to her. Oops’s reactions were priceless. She was enamored and so willing to please Gage. At the same time, she kept her own will and wasn’t afraid to stand toe to toe with Gage. So, even though she was willing to be his slave, she kept her backbone of steel.

The conflict between Gage and Brice, Oops’s brother, was perfect. Everyone saw that coming from a mile away. Brice reacted as any overprotective big brother would. Gage responded as a man in love. It was great! When Tervor and Cade got in on the action, it was even better. Terryn and Rylie were great foils to the men and their over abundance of testosterone.

I can’t wait for more of this series!
Mine to Take - Cynthia Eden image

Skye has lost everything. It was all taken from her when her stalker caused her car to crash. Now her stalker is back and Sky needs help. She turns to long lost friend and ex-lover, Trace.

Trace never stopped loving Skye and he’s determined to keep her safe as well as win her back.

This was a relatively short story. The pace is fast and things happen quickly. There was never a dull moment in this story. Sky is either running for her life or running from the passion she feels for Trace.

They mystery of the stalker was very nicely hidden. I didn’t know who the stalker was until the very end. I really enjoyed that aspect of it. I can usually figure these things out quicker.

My big disappointment came from connecting with Trace and Skye. As much as I liked them, I didn’t really connect with them. I think the lack of more background information on their former connection kept me from making that connection. I also didn’t really feel the tension between Trace and Skye.

Overall a good story and I’ll definitely be reading more by author Cynthia Eden.

Lethal Obsession (Lethal Obsession, #1)

Lethal Obsession (Lethal Obsession, #1) - Shandra Miller This is definitely a dark read. There's a killer on the loose and he's targeting Detective Angela.

This was a quick read and it was pretty good. The tension created by the murders was great. It was perfect for this story.

There's no romance in this story. It's dark erotic thriller.

We don't get all the answers in this one. In fact we're left with a cliffhanger. I'll definitely be reading the next one!

McKenna's Honor (Clan MacDougall, #4)

McKenna's Honor (Clan MacDougall, #4) - Suzan Tisdale This review will appear at Romantic Historical Lovers on 9/5.

“Angus hangs at dawn.” Four words that will chill anyone to the bone. Well, anyone reading the Clan MacDougall series by Suzan Tisdale. These words lead us into a world of intrigue, deception, and deadly games.

Angus and Duncan have been accused of treason. When the charges are read, both Angus and Duncan plead guilty. But why? Everyone knows they would never betray Scotland. But with their pleas, they are set to hang.

While McKenna’s Honor is not a romance in its strictest form, it’s still about love and devotion. It’s about the love Angus has for his clan and his wife. It’s about the love a man has for his wife, his clan, his country, his king and about the love a woman has for her husband, her clan, her country and her king.

And let me tell you, these are some serious kick-butt women! They do us proud!

For a novella there is quite a bit going on in this story. It does a beautiful job of introducing new characters I hope we get to see in later stories, it brings us a little more information about the world the Clan MacDougall lives in. It definitely makes the other stories richer as it brings a new light and angle on some of the past events.

I’m so ready for the next Suzan Tisdale book. They just keep getting better and better!

Heart Trouble - Jenny Lyn image

Heart Trouble by Jenny Lyn tells the story of a doctor and a cop. They’re thrown together when she becomes the target of a serial killer. Their attraction to each other instantaneous and hot. Spending 24/7 together just leads to some hot bedroom action and an intense courtship.

Sean and Erin are like two peas in a pod. She’s a doctor with crappy doctor hours and seeing people at their worst. Sean is a copy with crappy cop hours and seeing people at their worst. They get each other.

I loved their attraction to each other. Even before they were thrown together, they were attracted to each other. Being thrown together like that just made their romance happen that much quicker.

The final showdown with the serial killer was pretty intense, even though it was predictable.

Sean is an alpha male who can let go when he needs to. Or rather, when Erin needs him to. He can even say I’m sorry when he’s wrong. Gotta love alpha males that can do that!

This was my first book by Jenny Lyn and I’ll definitely be reading more from her!

Endgame (Spy Games #3) - Mia Downing image

I FINALLY got the next installment of the Spygames series by Mia Downing. And it did not disappoint! Endgame gives us the story of steely eyed and hard as nails Charlotte. She’s fierce, she cold, and she’s a killer. She’s sent to protect Jake’s brother Aaron. He’s royally screwed up and now she has to keep him safe. Little does she know, that while she’s on assignment her endgame will be put into motion.

Aaron and Charlotte are a little different from most characters in stories like this. Aaron is definitely not like Jake and Chase. He’s not very confident with the ladies and he doesn’t have much experience with the women. He’s more afraid of them than you can imagine. Charlotte is anything but submissive. She’s dominant and in charge of everything. She keeps a tight control over everything.

As Charlotte and Aaron grow closer, their roles begin to shift. Aaron learns how to take charge and Charlotte learns to let her true nature show through. Charlotte and Aaron find themselves growing closer and closer. The big problem? Charlotte doesn’t expect to survive her endgame.

Now, I’m the first to admit that I like my men dominant and my women submissive. That’s just the way I like my characters. The first part of this book was a bit difficult for me, simply because the roles are reversed. However, it works for these characters. The last half of the book, you really see the growth in Aaron and Charlotte and you see how they connect with each other. They are truly meant for each other and compliment each other in ways you can’t imagine.

Now, at the end of Lethal Limits, I was firmly entrenched in Team Jake’s camp. Chase could take a flying leap off a cliff for all I cared. He’s an ass. I guess being Satan and Lord of the Spies will do that do you. But for all you Chase lovers out there, he redeems himself. I continued to hate through this book, but by the end, I was feeling all warm and mushy toward him. Pissed me off!

I’m hoping we get more Spy Games books. I do love a good super spy!

Erica's Choice - Sami Lee Erica’s Choice is a great love story. It’s the story of two men finding love with each other and with the same woman. It’s about that woman learning to love both of these men.

Erica has an earth shattering realization that leaves her deciding to live life to the fullest. It propels her straight into the arms of Griff and Corey, two of the hottest fire fighters in town. Determined to keep it sex-only, but things rarely turn out the way they’re planned.

By all appearances, it seems Erica’s choice is going to be deciding which man she wants. But that’s not her choice at all. It’s something more. Something that shakes her very foundation. But instead of leaning on her men, she pushes them away. Griff and Corey push back.

I really enjoyed watching Corey come to terms with his feelings for Griff. Watching Griff realize not everyone is like his past lovers was amazing. And then there’s Erica. She’s been alone and strong for so long. She doesn’t know how to lean on others. Watching her bloom under their love was neat. Watching her learn that traditional is not always the way to go.

This is a great MMF story that will leave you wondering why you ever wanted just one man and one woman to begin with!
Dead Sexy Dragon - Lolita Lopez image

Dead Sexy Dragon is a quick, hot read. Stig is a dragon shifter who is going into his phase. A period of intense mating instincts! FINALLY! Men get to go through that shit instead of just the women! Hee hee!

Cora, Stig’s late best friend’s little sister, shows up on his doorstep. She’s in trouble and she needs his help. Only Stig needs to stay away from her. He wants her. He’s wanted her for years. Now that he’s in heat, that’s bad. Very bad.

This short and compact story did a pretty good job of introducing us to the world of dragon shifters and their history. It also introduced us to the age old war that dragon shifters and knights have been embroiled in. While we got some of the history, I definitely would have liked more on that. I would have liked more tension with regards to the feud and danger they were in. Hopefully we’ll get more in the following books.

The tension between Cora and Stig added to the story. I like the way the tension was built. That was a very nice touch. I just wish the tension had been extended to waking hours, not just dreams.

I also like the Cora didn’t just accept all of this. She had some problems with it. That made it all the more realistic.

Ms. Lopez has done a good job of bringing us into her dragon world. She added some things I’ve not seen before with dragon shifters while staying true to the legend of dragons that most of us know. I’m really hoping these grow into full length novels instead of staying novellas. I would definitely like more from them. The potential is there for a full length novel. I’m looking forward to the next one in the series. Love me some dragon shifters!
